Alexandra Ripley (1934–2004) was an American author best known for her historical novels. Born on January 8, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina, Ripley developed a passion for literature and storytelling at an early age. She attended West Virginia University and later studied at the City College of New York.

Ripley’s breakthrough came with her sequel to Margaret Mitchell’s iconic novel “Gone with the Wind.” In 1991, she published “Scarlett,” which continued the saga of Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler. Despite mixed critical reviews, the book became a commercial success and further solidified Ripley’s place in the literary world.

Before her foray into the “Gone with the Wind” universe, Ripley wrote several novels and short stories, exploring themes of love, family, and the Southern experience. Some of her other notable works include “Charleston,” “On Leaving Charleston,” and “New Orleans Legacy.”

Throughout her career, Alexandra Ripley demonstrated a talent for capturing the essence of the American South, infusing her narratives with rich historical detail and vivid characters. She passed away on January 10, 2004, leaving behind a legacy of engaging literature that resonates with readers who appreciate historical fiction and Southern storytelling.
