Gianni Infantino is a Swiss-Italian football administrator who has served as the President of FIFA since 2016. Born on March 23, 1970, in Brig, Switzerland, he studied law at the University of Fribourg before beginning his career in sports administration.
Infantino first gained prominence as UEFA’s General Secretary, where he played a key role in expanding the UEFA Champions League and implementing financial fair play regulations. In 2016, he was elected FIFA President, succeeding Sepp Blatter amid a period of corruption scandals. Under his leadership, FIFA has expanded the World Cup to 48 teams (starting in 2026) and introduced the expanded Club World Cup.
Infantino has focused on growing football globally, advocating for investment in developing nations and increasing competition formats. However, his tenure has been met with controversy, including criticism over FIFA’s handling of human rights issues in host countries. Despite this, he remains a central figure in world football governance.
