Fred MacMurray (1908–1991) was an American actor and musician whose career spanned more than five decades in Hollywood. Born on August 30, 1908, in Kankakee, Illinois, he initially worked as a musician before entering the film industry.
MacMurray became a popular leading man during the 1930s and 1940s, appearing in romantic comedies, dramas, and later film noir. Some of his notable movies include Double Indemnity (1944), in which he played insurance salesman Walter Neff, and The Apartment (1960). He also starred in Disney films such as The Absent-Minded Professor and The Shaggy Dog.
On television, MacMurray achieved lasting fame as Steve Douglas, the widowed father in the family sitcom My Three Sons, which ran from 1960 to 1972.
