George E. Pataki, born June 24, 1945, in Peekskill, New York, is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 53rd Governor of New York from 1995 to 2006. A member of the Republican Party, Pataki is known for his moderate stances on social issues and his fiscal conservatism.

He graduated from Yale University and earned a law degree from Columbia Law School. Prior to his gubernatorial tenure, Pataki served as Mayor of Peekskill, a member of the New York State Assembly, and a State Senator.
