Jenny Slate, born on March 25, 1982, in Milton, Massachusetts, is an American actress, comedian, and writer. She gained early recognition as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (2009–2010) and later found success with her viral short film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2010), which she co-created and voiced.

Slate’s breakout role came in the indie film Obvious Child (2014), earning critical acclaim for her performance. She has also voiced characters in animated films like Zootopia (2016) and The Secret Life of Pets (2016). On television, she appeared in Parks and Recreation, Big Mouth, and Bob’s Burgers.

Beyond acting, Slate has written children’s books and co-created Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2022), which was nominated for an Academy Award. She was previously married to filmmaker Dean Fleischer-Camp and later married artist Ben Shattuck. Slate continues to be a versatile talent in comedy and film.
