John Deacon (born 19 August 1951) is an English musician best known as the bassist of the legendary rock band Queen. He joined Queen in 1971 and became an important member of the group, contributing both his distinctive bass playing and songwriting skills.
Deacon wrote several of Queen’s popular songs, including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “I Want to Break Free,” and “You’re My Best Friend.” His bass line on “Another One Bites the Dust” became one of the most recognizable in rock music and helped the song achieve worldwide success. Unlike the other members of Queen, Deacon generally avoided the spotlight and maintained a private lifestyle.
After Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury died in 1991, Deacon performed with the band only occasionally and officially retired from music in 1997.
