Sir Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, known as Tony Blair, was born on May 6, 1953, in Edinburgh, Scotland. A barrister by training, he entered Parliament in 1983 and became leader of the Labour Party in 1994. Blair served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007, leading Labour to three consecutive general election victories—a first for the party.

His “New Labour” agenda modernized the party by embracing market economics and reforming public services. Domestically, Blair introduced the minimum wage, expanded LGBT+ rights, and advanced devolution in Scotland and Wales. Internationally, he played a key role in the Northern Ireland peace process, culminating in the Good Friday Agreement.

However, his support for the U.S.-led Iraq War in 2003 drew significant criticism. After resigning in 2007, Blair became an envoy for the Middle East Quartet and founded the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. He was knighted in 2021 for his public service.
