He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has had a distinguished career in public service.
Kovind began his political journey as a lawyer, practicing in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He also served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Indian Parliament) from 1994 to 2006. During his tenure as an MP, he focused on issues related to the welfare of marginalized communities, particularly the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
In 2015, Kovind was appointed as the Governor of the Indian state of Bihar, where he continued to work towards the upliftment of disadvantaged sections of society.
