Rooney Mara is an American actress known for her work in independent films as well as big-budget Hollywood productions. She was born on April 17, 1985, in Bedford, New York, and is the second of four children. Her family has a long history in American football, with both her father and grandfather owning NFL teams.
Mara attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied psychology and international social policy before dropping out to pursue acting full-time. Her breakout role came in 2010 when she played the lead in the film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She has since appeared in a number of other critically acclaimed films, including “Carol,” “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” and “Her.”
