Heath Ledger (1979-2008) was an Australian actor and director. He first gained international recognition for his role in the teen comedy “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999) and went on to star in a number of successful films, including “The Patriot” (2000), “A Knight’s Tale” (2001), and “Brokeback Mountain” (2005), for which he received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker in “The Dark Knight” (2008) is widely regarded as one of the greatest performances in the history of cinema, and earned him numerous posthumous accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Sadly, Ledger passed away in January 2008 due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most talented and promising actors of his generation.
