Courtney B. Vance (born March 12, 1960) is an American actor known for his powerful performances in film, television, and theater. A graduate of Harvard University and the Yale School of Drama, Vance gained early recognition on Broadway, earning Tony nominations for Fences and Six Degrees of Separation.
His television breakthrough came with Law & Order: Criminal Intent, where he played Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver. Vance’s portrayal of Johnnie Cochran in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story (2016) earned him an Emmy Award. He also starred in Lovecraft Country, winning another Emmy for his role.
In film, Vance has appeared in The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Preacher’s Wife (1996), and The Photograph (2020).
