Dan Fouts, born June 10, 1951, in San Francisco, California, is a former American football quarterback celebrated for his prolific career with the San Diego Chargers in the NFL. Attending the University of Oregon, Fouts honed his skills, setting numerous school records before being drafted in the third round of the 1973 NFL Draft by the Chargers.

Fouts became the centerpiece of the Chargers’ high-powered “Air Coryell” offense under coach Don Coryell in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Known for his strong arm, quick release, and ability to read defenses, he led the league in passing yards for four consecutive seasons from 1979 to 1982. In 1981, he set an NFL record with 4,802 passing yards. Fouts’ dynamic playmaking abilities earned him six Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro honors.

Over his 15-season career, Fouts amassed 43,040 passing yards and 254 touchdowns. Despite never winning a Super Bowl, he led the Chargers to multiple playoff appearances, including two AFC Championship Games.
