Jack Kemp (1935-2009) was an influential American politician, professional football player, and advocate for supply-side economics. Born in Los Angeles, Kemp played as a quarterback in the American Football League (AFL) for the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, leading the Bills to two AFL championships and earning the league’s MVP award in 1965.
After retiring from football, Kemp entered politics, serving as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1971 to 1989. He was a strong proponent of economic policies focused on tax cuts and free-market principles, which influenced the Reagan administration. Kemp ran for president in 1988 but was unsuccessful, later serving as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W.
