Inspiring quotes by Jerry Lee Lewis

The top 10 most inspiring quotes by Jerry Lee Lewis

  • Either be hot or cold. If you are lukewarm, the Lord will spew you forth from His mouth.
  • Y’know, there’s nothin’ like tearing up a good club now and then.
  • I never set fire to a piano. I’d like to have got away with it, though. I pushed a couple of them in the river. They wasn’t any good.
  • If I’m going to Hell, I’m going there playing the piano.
  • You’ve got to walk and talk with God to go to heaven… I have the devil in me! If I didn’t have, I’d be Christian!
  • Other people – they practice and they practice… these fingers of mine, they got brains in ’em. You don’t tell them what to do – they do it. God given talent.
  • When they look back on me I want ’em to remember me not for all my wives, although I’ve had a few, and certainly not for any mansions or high livin’ money I made and spent. I want ’em to remember me simply for my music.

  • Normally, things are viewed in these little segmented boxes. There’s classical, and then there’s jazz; romantic, and then there’s baroque. I find that very dissatisfying. I was trying to find the thread that connects one type of music – one type of musician – to another, and to follow that thread in some kind of natural, evolutionary way.
  • I’ve always showed up. If I got paid.

Jerry Lee Lewis (September 29, 1935 – October 28, 2022) was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist, widely regarded as one of rock and roll’s founding pioneers. Born in Ferriday, Louisiana, he grew up playing piano in church before blending gospel, blues, and country into a fiery new sound.

Known as “The Killer,” Lewis rose to fame in the 1950s with Sun Records, delivering electrifying hits like Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On and Great Balls of Fire. His wild stage presence and pounding piano style made him a revolutionary figure in popular music.

However, his career was nearly derailed in 1958 after controversy over his marriage to his 13-year-old cousin, which drew public backlash. Despite setbacks, Lewis reinvented himself as a country artist in the 1960s, achieving numerous chart-topping hits. Celebrated for his raw energy and influence, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
