John Cho (born Cho Yo-han; June 16, 1972, Seoul) is a South Korean–born American actor and writer. He moved to the U.S. at age six and was raised in Los Angeles, attending Herbert Hoover High before earning a BA in English literature at UC Berkeley in 1996.

Initially working as a middle‑school English teacher, he soon started acting on stage with the East West Players and appeared in small screen roles and indie films. Cho broke out with a memorable cameo in American Pie (1999), popularizing the term “MILF”, followed by starring as Harold in the cult classic Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004).

In 2009, he took over the role of Hikaru Sulu in J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek reboot, helping diversify mainstream cinema. Known for versatility, Cho delivered acclaimed performances in indie drama Columbus (2017) and headlined the pioneering thriller Searching (2018), earning an Independent Spirit nomination.
