Jordan Brian Henderson MBE (born 17 June 1990, Sunderland) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and captains Ajax in the Eredivisie, as well as the England national team.
He joined Sunderland’s academy at age eight, made his senior debut in 2008, and after a loan at Coventry City, earned 71 Premier League appearances before transferring to Liverpool in 2011. Appointed Liverpool captain in 2015, he led the club to seven major titles—including the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, their first league crown in 30 years. Named FWA Footballer of the Year in 2020, Henderson also won the FA and EFL Cups in 2022.
Internationally, he debuted for England in November 2010 and has since earned 84 caps, playing in multiple European Championships and World Cups; he famously scored his first international goal in Euro 2020.
In the summer of 2023, he briefly moved to Al-Ettifaq before joining Ajax in January 2024, where he was named captain. His Ajax form earned him an England recall, and recent reports link him with a sentimental return to Sunderland.
