Karen Armstrong

Karen Armstrong is a British author and commentator on religion. She was born on November 14, 1944, in Wildmoor, Worcestershire, England. After joining a convent at the age of 17, she spent seven years as a Roman Catholic nun, but ultimately left the convent in 1969.

She later went on to earn a degree in literature from St Anne’s College, Oxford. Armstrong is best known for her books on comparative religion, including “A History of God”, “The Battle for God”, and “The Great Transformation”.

Her work focuses on the similarities between the world’s major religions, and she has been praised for her ability to communicate complex religious ideas in an accessible way. Armstrong has received numerous awards for her writing and contributions to religious understanding, including the TED Prize, the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, and the National Humanities Medal.
