Manti Teʻo (born January 26, 1991) is a former American football linebacker best known for his standout college career at the University of Notre Dame. Raised in Laie, Hawaii, Teʻo was a highly decorated high school athlete before becoming one of the most celebrated defensive players in college football.

In 2012, he led Notre Dame to the BCS National Championship Game and earned numerous honors, including the Maxwell Award, Chuck Bednarik Award, and unanimous All-American recognition. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting, an uncommon achievement for a defensive player.

Teʻo’s college career was later overshadowed by a widely publicized catfishing hoax that drew national attention, though he continued pursuing professional football. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and also spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.

After retiring from professional football, Teʻo transitioned into media and advocacy, sharing his story through documentaries and motivational speaking.
