Matt Groening is an American cartoonist, animator, writer, producer, and voice actor, best known for creating the popular television series “The Simpsons” and “Futurama.” He was born on February 15, 1954, in Portland, Oregon.

Groening grew up in Portland and attended the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where he studied philosophy. After college, he moved to Los Angeles and began drawing cartoons for various newspapers and magazines.

In 1985, Groening created a series of animated shorts called “The Simpsons” for “The Tracey Ullman Show.” The shorts were an instant hit, and in 1989, “The Simpsons” became its own half-hour prime-time show, which is now the longest-running American sitcom in history.

In 1999, Groening created “Futurama,” an animated science-fiction sitcom that ran for seven seasons. He has also created other animated series, including “Disenchantment” and “Life in Hell.”

Throughout his career, Groening has received numerous awards and accolades, including 12 Primetime Emmy Awards, a British Comedy Award, and a Peabody Award. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful cartoonists and animators of his generation.
