Paul Reubens (1952–2023) was an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer best known for his iconic character Pee-wee Herman. Born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York, Reubens developed a love for performance early on, studying drama at Boston University and the California Institute of the Arts.

In the late 1970s, he joined the Los Angeles-based comedy troupe The Groundlings, where he created Pee-wee Herman, a quirky, childlike character who quickly gained a cult following.

Reubens brought Pee-wee to life in the 1980s with “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” a children’s television show that became a cultural phenomenon, winning multiple Emmy Awards.

He also starred in the hit film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” (1985), directed by Tim Burton. Despite a few controversies in the 1990s, Reubens remained a beloved figure in entertainment, continuing to perform and voice roles until his passing in 2023.
