Phil Hartman (1948–1998) was a Canadian-American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and graphic designer, best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) and “The Simpsons.”

Born in Brantford, Ontario, Hartman moved to the U.S. and became a naturalized citizen. He started his career as a graphic artist before discovering his passion for comedy at the Groundlings, an L.A. improvisational group.

Hartman gained fame on SNL (1986–1994), where he became known for his versatile impressions and memorable characters, including impersonations of Bill Clinton and Frankenstein’s monster. He also voiced multiple characters on The Simpsons, notably Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz.
