Roberto Di Matteo, born May 29, 1970, in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is an Italian football manager and former professional midfielder. He began his playing career with Swiss club Schaffhausen before moving to Lazio in 1993 and then Chelsea in 1996.
Known for his playmaking abilities and scoring crucial goals, Di Matteo helped Chelsea win two FA Cups, a League Cup, and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. A serious leg injury forced his early retirement in 2002.
Transitioning to management, Di Matteo led Milton Keynes Dons and West Bromwich Albion before his notable tenure at Chelsea. As caretaker manager in 2012, he guided Chelsea to an historic UEFA Champions League victory and an FA Cup win, earning a permanent position that same year.
