William F. Weld, born on July 31, 1945, in Smithtown, New York, is an American attorney, author, and politician. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he began his career as legal counsel during the Watergate impeachment inquiry.

He later served as U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts and Assistant U.S. Attorney General for the Criminal Division, where he focused on public corruption and white-collar crime. Weld was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 1990 and re-elected in 1994, earning praise for his fiscally conservative policies, including tax cuts and welfare reform.

He resigned in 1997 after an unsuccessful nomination to be U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. Weld returned to private law practice and writing, authoring political thrillers. In 2016, he was the Libertarian Party’s vice-presidential nominee alongside Gary Johnson. He briefly sought the Republican nomination for president in 2020.
