James Wan is a Malaysian-born Australian film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in the horror genre. Born on February 27, 1977, in Kuching, Malaysia, Wan moved to Australia as a teenager. He attended the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, where he studied film.
Wan rose to prominence with his directorial debut, “Saw” (2004), a low-budget horror film that became a cultural phenomenon and spawned a successful franchise. He further solidified his reputation with the supernatural horror film “Insidious” (2010) and its sequels.
