Raúl González Blanco, known simply as Raúl, is a retired Spanish footballer born on June 27, 1977, in Madrid, Spain. Renowned for his prolific goal-scoring ability and exceptional leadership on the field, Raúl is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Raúl began his career at Atlético Madrid’s youth academy before moving to Real Madrid’s youth system in 1992. He made his first-team debut for Real Madrid in 1994 at the age of 17, quickly establishing himself as a key player. During his 16 seasons with the club, Raúl scored 323 goals in 741 appearances, becoming Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer until his record was surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo. He won six La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League titles, and numerous other domestic and international trophies with the club.
In 2010, Raúl transferred to Schalke 04 in Germany, where he continued to excel, helping the team reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and win the DFB-Pokal. He later played for Al Sadd in Qatar and New York Cosmos in the United States before retiring in 2015.
Internationally, Raúl earned 102 caps for Spain, scoring 44 goals. Despite his individual success, team honors eluded him at major international tournaments. After retiring, Raúl began a coaching career and currently works within Real Madrid’s youth academy, nurturing the next generation of talent.
