Skandar Keynes is a British actor, best known for his portrayal of Edmund Pevensie in “The Chronicles of Narnia” film series. Born on September 5, 1991, in London, England, Keynes comes from a family with notable political and intellectual backgrounds; his great-great-grandfather was economist John Maynard Keynes, and his great-great-great-grandfather was the scientist Charles Darwin.
Keynes began his acting career in 2001 with small roles in TV productions and films. He gained worldwide recognition when he was cast as Edmund in “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005), a role he reprised in three more films of the franchise, including “Prince Caspian” (2008) and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (2010). His performance as the conflicted and rebellious Edmund made him a fan favorite.
After “Narnia,” Keynes took a step back from acting to focus on his academic pursuits. He studied Arabic and Middle Eastern history at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, and later worked as a political adviser. His shift from acting to a more academic and political career has made him a unique figure among child stars of his generation.
Skandar Keynes’s 5 most popular quotes
- t’s not that I’m particularly shy but I just don’t like the idea of publicising myself as a ‘celebrity’.
- I really feel that if I did another [Narnia] film I’d just be repeating myself and I don’t really want to do that as an actor.
- It’s a bittersweet feeling because this [filming in Chronicles of Narnia] has been a part of my life for six years – from the age of 15 to 21. For anybody that’s a big growing up phase, especially in the unique experience of Narnia. But I feel honoured to have been a part of it but the tools I learned from Narnia I’m now taking forward to my next project.
- I kind of feel that once we’re back in London and back in regular life, I just sort of get the bus and very occasionally this whole other role [ in Chronicels of Narnia] slips into my home life. Randomly people recognise me but even then it’s very minor. It’s not as if my life has been turned on its head and I can’t walk down the street unless I’m wearing dark sunglasses and a ninja kit.
- IMDB is ridiculous… First of all, they had me down as my height being 5ft 7ins. I’m 5ft 10ins. But now they’ve got me down as 6ft 1ins and three quarters. They also have me down as doing Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I wish they had me down as doing Francis Ford Coppola’s next film. That would be a great rumour.
