Xi Jinping, born on June 15, 1953, is a Chinese politician and the paramount leader of the People’s Republic of China. He was born into a prominent political family; his father, Xi Zhongxun, was a revolutionary veteran and former vice-premier, and his mother, Qi Xin, was a renowned revolutionary heroine.
Xi Jinping joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1974 and began his political career in various provinces, holding positions in different regions of China. He gained experience in agricultural work and rural development during the early years of his career. Xi rose through the ranks of the party, and by the late 1990s, he became the governor of Fujian Province. Later, he served as the party secretary of Zhejiang Province.
In 2007, Xi was appointed to the Standing Committee of the Politburo, the highest decision-making body in China. He was named the vice president of China in 2008, serving under President Hu Jintao.
